"In March 1942 the 176th Infantry Regiment was transferred to Military District Of Washington from the 29th Infantry Division.  I was in charge of moving General George Marshall's office from his office in D.C. to the new Pentagon in Virginia, but someone misplaced his small radio, and we chipped in and bought him a new one that looked like his old one.  I found this one in a pawn shop.

During this time I had to give close order drill to 30 officers  (Majors down to Lieutenants) in front of this building 6 hours a day for two weeks.

Near the end of this year we received our draftees, and I was on 9 training cadres to bring our Regiment to combat strength.

I was also on the Honor Guard for the President whenever he received a government official or a death of someone from the White House staff.  We had parades for Hollywood and other country elites.

During this period we held maneuvers at A.P.Hill and  I was in charge of a 37mm anti-tank gun and crew .

March 1943 we left for Norfolk, Virginia, but ended up at Fort Benning ,Georgia ..... "  Uncle Frank    ................to be continued:
