Bank Street at Market and High Streets
more WAR ZONE photographs - in THE CITY.
Over 140 Years later the scars of the "shelling" and destruction at Petersburg remain. A few feet to the left second story and far left window is the hole caused by a Union 3 inch cannon shell fired from the Union lines, and entering this business and residence.
Left as a memorial, an unexploded artillery shell has most likely been sitting in this hole ever since the war. It has been there my 60 years.
